The Ultimate Design Pattern

So I'm building out all these different variations on Command Pattern for Silverlight and writting articles on MVP or pMVP or MVVM or M-WTF and some times the entire discussion gets so esoteric that I want to screen. I mean really how the heck to you entirely seperate presenter from the model and view for example? in Silverlight its NEVER entirely seperate, not really. Anyway so as always Dr. WPF is the man and has a solution... W-V-poo which I think applies to Silverlight as much as WPF. Check out the article:

Xaml Fest, SD2IG and Coolaid

The Seattle Developer Designer UX Group meet wed night. Ableit we had to meet in the Lincon Square accross from where we normally meet but it was alot of fun. Charles was good enough to take a picture and prove that yes we do indeed drinking Coolaid, in this case 'Silverlight' Coolaid.

The SD2IG meeting we talked about Smart Device UX. Our goal was to look at the designer developer work flow on mobile devices but clearly on the iphone it kind of sucks right now...

Devin and Matt, I must say the iUI kit that Matt used does give a good story for designers building HTML apps. But really apps on the iphone Devin showed us that this is very very difficult.

Silverlight on the iPhone

don't get to excited Silverlight wasn't running ON the iphone but we did manage to get a silverlight app servered up from an iphone... So we thought we would have some fun and install an entire web site on an iphone, install it on our network in the data center and for extra special fun we pointed a high end web stress tool at the phone...

I was surprised to see that the phone for the first 3 minutes of the test was doing well with well over 163 concurrent users at a time on the site but at 16971 hits it melted...

Full Length Movie Vie Silverlight

I'm ashamed to admit that I contributed in any way to this project... mind you I liked the Movielink team but the content is really really offesive in my opinion but the fact is that this is the first full length feature streamed via Silverlight to the masses. The player itself is straight forward and we un covered a few issues on the mac apprently in the underlying media stack in Silverlight but none the less a bug where about half way through the movie the sounds slowly gets upto a second off from the video... otherwise it works great :) if you must, you can check it out at:

Path Performance Issues in Silverlight

So I was talking to Jared and Devin and the other designer/integrator types this morning and some one pointed out that when you create a Path that uses stretch and has a height and width Silverlight takes a huge preformance hit. Not sure why this is as it doen'st appear to be an issue in WPF that I know of but it seems to be a 'don't do that' in Silverlight...
